Obia le Chef & Cotola present the album NIMROD
“They banned black pennies because they are so racist” — Obia le Chef, Bon Dieu voit
Quebec – A decade after delivering their first classic, the duo Obia le Chef and Cotola return to the charge, refining both the content and the form on Nimrod, their new 14-track opus.
The event features profound texts and pharaonic compositions, a testament to culture. The excerpts, revealed bit by bit, Chiengrat and Moonwalk were able to announce the timeless atmosphere of the work and demonstrate that their authors are not yesterday's makers.
This album is intended to be the soundtrack of a journey through sought-after interludes, storytelling and reality. Coherence and originality are shared by the finesse of Rowjay on the piece Oseille des Franc-Maçons and the charisma of Fléau Dicaprio on Pam Nan. Moving from ego trip to introspection, Obia settles without artifice on the sounds of Cotola, covering a wide range of musical styles, from smooth R&B (Purelaine with Sabrina Sabotage) to the fusion of the 80s passing through the drumless with a Caribbean trap rhythm as is the case of Reasonable Doubt with Bob Marlich (France).
The flagship song of the project, "Good Lord Sees" is a striking work that exhibits the lyrical talent of Obia and his rebellious spirit, all on a captivating composition by Cotola. With his sharp and authentic lyrics, the rapper takes a stand against industry bias and racism in Quebec, and commits to protecting the essence of hip-hop. An essential addition for listeners seeking thought-provoking hip-hop that offers profound social critique.
