will.i.am and Taboo's "East LA" music video goes viral
American media outlets such as Billboard and UPROXX are already considering this title as the new anthem of cultural diversity in California.
Since its release online on July 18, the new clip East LA by will.i.am and Taboo, notorious members of the Black Eyed Peas, caused a sensation. Shot in the legendary streets of East Los Angeles, the video, punctuated by the voices and Chicano-Latino roots of the two artists, is full of references to working-class neighborhoods and the city's human mosaic.
In a context tinged with migratory tensions and fear, will.i.am and Taboo proudly display their origins and their solidarity with an often stigmatized community, while paying homage to the local culture. The catchy chorus, sincere images, direct direction: the virality of the clip was inevitable. The American media — Billboard, UPROXX — already see it as the new anthem of Californian cultural diversity.
The duo succeeded: East LA is more than a song, it is a snapshot of urban resilience and hope.
