7 days left in the fundraising campaign Taktika commits to suicide prevention

Taktika, the rap tandem from Lévis, formed by Frédéric Auger and Simon Valiquette, actively works in the field of suicide prevention in partnership with the Quebec Association for Suicide Prevention (AQPS) for five years now. However, the group has been involved in various social causes since 2008.

Team Suicide Prevention Sweaters

In collaboration with Anro Apparel, Taktika is selling a sweater that illustrates its belonging and its support for those who are fighting for life. Starting February 4, you can get a t-shirt, a crewneck and a sweatshirt Suicide Prevention Team until February 29, 2024.

Denis Savard, a Montreal Canadiens player, recently showed his support for the cause of suicide prevention by purchasing the jersey Suicide Prevention Team by TaktikaShowing solidarity with the initiative, he took a photo with the jersey in the locker room, demonstrating his commitment to this important cause. This action not only illustrates his support for the fundraising campaign Taktika, but also its awareness of the importance of suicide prevention

Beer Désarmé jusqu’aux dents

In 2010, the group presented " Désarmé jusqu’aux dents", a particularly striking song addressing the delicate subject of suicide in Quebec. More than ten years later, in partnership with the microbrewery L'Ironie du 13, they created a beer with the same name, which will be launched during the Suicide Prevention Week. All profits from the sale of this beer will be donated entirely to the Quebec Association for Suicide Prevention (AQPS).

We need to normalize the fact that asking for help when things aren't going well is the right thing to do, without fear of being judged by others. We need to realize that getting down on one knee isn't a sign of weakness, but a sign of courage. Highlights

• According to official data for 2020, 1,055 people took their own lives in Quebec. This represents an adjusted suicide rate of 12.3 per 100,000 people;
• The Office of the Chief Coroner of Quebec has not finished counting suicides for 2021, but according to the most recent update (December 16, 2022), there will be at least 1,008 suicides in Quebec in 2021;
• The suicide rate continues to decrease in Quebec, among both men and women;
• In Quebec, suicide is the 8th leading cause of death in the province;
• The suicide rate is three times higher among men than among women.

Suicide in men

• The highest suicide rate is observed among men aged 50 to 64;
• After peaking in 1999, the suicide rate among men has steadily declined, reaching the lowest adjusted rate since the beginning of the observation period in 2020, at 18.8 per 100,000 people.

Suicide among women

• As with men, the highest suicide rate among women is observed among those aged 50 to 64;
• There is a slight upward trend in the suicide rate among women aged 65 and over;
• After peaking in 1999, the suicide rate among women has steadily declined, reaching in 2020 the lowest adjusted rate since the early 1990s, at 5.9 per 100,000 people.

Use of hospital services for suicidal behavior

• Adolescents (15-19 years old) and young adults (20-34 years old) in Quebec are more likely to seek emergency care for suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts than older age groups. They are also more likely to be hospitalized for these reasons;
• There was a significant increase in the rate of emergency department visits and hospitalizations for suicidal behavior among girls, adolescents, and young women between 2008 and 2022.

Quebec Population Health Survey

• A comparison between the last two surveys (2020-2021 and 2014-2015) shows that there has been an increase in serious suicidal thoughts among girls aged 15 to 19 and young women aged 20 to 34 over the past six years.
