The year 2025 is already shaping up to be a very interesting one for hip-hop culture! Universal Pictures has just announced the preparation of a biopic dedicated to the star Snoop Dogg. Behind the camera, we find Craig Brewer, a director renowned for his authentic musical films such as Hustle & Flow and Dolemite Is My Name. This project, expected as THE film on Snoop, promises to retrace the unique journey of Calvin Broadus Jr., from his beginnings on the streets of Long Beach to his status as a global superstar and essential entrepreneur.

A quality cast behind the project

This biopic is not just another film about rap: it is the first project resulting from the partnership between Death Row Pictures and NBCUniversal. Death Row, a famous label that revealed Snoop Dogg in the world, associates with Brian Grazer (producer of the classics 8 Mile and Straight Outta Compton) and to Sara Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures, to produce this important film. Snoop Dogg he is also a producer, guaranteeing authenticity and total immersion in his world.

The screenplay, originally written by Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther), will be polished by Craig Brewer to stick as closely as possible to the life and personality of Snoop. We will follow the artist through his ups and downs: his first freestyles, his famous collaborations with Dr. Dre, his time in prison, his artistic rebirth, and his incredible reconversion into businessman and media personality.

This film marks a turning point for Death Row Records, which sees the future with its audiovisual production division. The objective is to tell the story of hip-hop culture from the inside, with its codes, its dramas, its successes and its important figures.

After the success of Straight Outta Compton (over $200 million at the box office) and the film 8 Mile (Oscar for Best Song for Lose Yourself), Universal is banking heavily on this new project, which is already shaping up to be an important film.

Alongside the film, Snoop Dogg continues to make headlines: he will return to his red chair in season 28 of The Voice US in the fall, and multiplies collaborations with NBCUniversal, after having been very present during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on NBC and Peacock.

The biopic of Snoop Dogg, scheduled for release on December 25, 2025, promises to be an event not to be missed for all hip-hop fans. Between authenticity, homage and great storytelling, this film could well become a reference for understanding the journey and impact of Snoop Dogg over several generations.
