With the release of the music video Reste Dangereux, Outra La Pieuvre confirms once again its longevity on the Quebec Hip-Hop scene. This new track, taken from the album Jour d’Indépendance / Bataille de Vertières, is part of an artistic trajectory that began more than three decades ago, marked by loyalty to Hip-Hop culture.

A remarkable start at Père Marquette School

The story of the rapper Outra began in 1993, when he left the Collège Français for Père Marquette high school. It was there that he made his debut in the studio, notably with El Cotola, and forges a lasting friendship with Naufrage, met during a talent contest in a Montreal parking lot. These formative years laid the foundations for an international career.

With Naufrage, Outra first founded the English-speaking group Rhyme Apostles, renamed Wretched Prophets before becoming Rainmen. The decisive meeting with Vincent Egret, director of Dubmatique, propels Rainmen on the front of the stage with the title Heaviest Rain, which gave its name to the group. Their first album Armageddon, particularly in its exclusive version for France, marks a milestone for Quebec rap internationally.

An underestimated but undeniable legacy

Despite the vagaries of life and family responsibilities, Outra never stopped writing or producing. After Bi'ne$$ Legal (2006), the mixtape Ultimate Djòl (2007), Armageddon 12-21-12 (2008) and the DVD 09-09-09 (2009), the group released Comme si c’était hier in 2013. Outra then celebrates the 20th anniversary of the album Armageddon at the Francos de Montréal in 2018, before releasing a number of singles and solo projects, including the album Pertes & Bénéfices in 2023.

Although their influence is sometimes underestimated, Outra La Pieuvre and Naufrage remain emblematic and pioneering figures of Quebec rap, like artists such as Blondie B and MR Q.

However, the MC's journey Outra La Pieuvre, from shadow to light, embodies the underground rap of yesteryear and the richness of a scene too often unknown to the general public.

He's the kind of indestructible MC: you cut off one of his tentacles, she grows back and comes back to put you in your place.

The MC's Legacy Outra La Pieuvre shows that it is built over the long term, far from the limelight, but still anchored in the reality of Quebec Hip-Hop, where its impact is most tangible.
