A tribute to the classics

As we already mentioned in our previous article on Clermont, the artist draws his inspiration from the golden age of hip-hop. In this new track, he pays homage to the legends who shaped his flow: KRS-One, Nas, Biggie, Fat Joe, and many others. His text, fluid and assured, reels off the references with an ease that recalls the time when D-Block, Smif-N-Wessun and the productions of DJ Premier dominated the clubs.

“I come from the D-Block era / Smif-N-Wessun under the hood / KRS One, Nas, Biggie and Fat Joe”

Between Montreal and New York: A cultural bridge

The clip, released on May 30, 2025, was born from a stay of Clermont in New York for his son's basketball tournament. This immersion in the city that saw the birth of hip-hop gave rise to this track, in which he proudly combines his Quebecois accent with the raw energy of NYC.

“I don’t write my rap like in Europe / My rhymes have to rock / Straight up in New York in a joual of Quebec French”

Authentic rap, far from egos

Clermont reminds him: he doesn't rap for fame or money, but out of passion.

"No, I don't do this for the money / The fame of being an icon / I spit what I've had / Hoping to touch the world."

His flow, "phat" and imposing, takes up space without ever falling into the ego trip. He raps for his followers, those who listen to his tracks in streaming, those who still believe in pure hip-hop.

Montreal New York confirms that Clermont still has a lot to offer to the hip-hop scene. If you missed our previous articles on Clermont and DJ Horg :
