Franco Votes: Francophone Rap at the GRAMMY Awards?
A historic project that could propel francophone music to the GRAMMY Awards.
This is an important moment for Hip-Hop culture and the global French-speaking world.
The journalist of La Presse, Pascal Leblanc, announced for the first time Franco Votes, a major initiative that aims to create a new category Francophone Music to the GRAMMY Awards, including prizes like the Best French Rap Album of the Year, the Best French Pop Album of the Year and the Best French Song of the Year.
The initiative Franco Votes is carried by a trio renowned for their impact at various levels of the music industry:
- Steve Pageot (Director of Franco Votes, founder of Pageot Productions and Governor of the Recording Academy/GRAMMY in New York)
- Dany Tétreault, (Paralegal and founder of Hip-Hop Magazine)
- Hughes Felizor (A&R at Pageot Productions and member of the Recording Academy/GRAMMY)
Last summer, they combined their skills and passion to advance the recognition of francophone music on the international scene. This is an opportunity for the francophone community to shine on the red carpet of the GRAMMYs.

Mobilization of the french music industry
The Recording Academy/GRAMMYs of the New York Chapter has established strict criteria for the introduction of new categories, to ensure the legitimacy and relevance of each addition.
Firstly, it is necessary that more than 100 French-speaking artists register each year in each category.
It must be demonstrated that the francophone music market exerts a significant influence in the music industry, both socially and financially.
These criterias allow the GRAMMYs to assess the extent of industry and media mobilization and to measure the potential for long-term social impact.
How did Franco Votes come to life?
In winter 2024, Steve Pageot crosses paths with Dany Tétreault, without either of them suspecting that this meeting could well transform the music industry.
In June 2024, Steve Pageot, of Haitian descent, made history by becoming the first in Canada to hold the position as Governor at the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs of the New York Chapter.
Dany, was the first to speak of the election of Steve Pageot as Governor of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs. The news, which was released for the first time, was then relayed by the media around the world.
In the summer of 2024, following a reflection at the origin of this initiative, it was decided by the trio that the project Franco Votes must have a concrete and stimulating impact on the careers of French-speaking artists.
In June 2025, Steve Pageot is re-elected as Governor, thus crowning a year rich in commitments and achievements. Steve holds a position that allows him to support projects promoting the development of the music sector.
Steve Pageot and Hughes Felizor evolve in various musical styles, including Pop and Hip-Hop, while Dany Tétreault maintains a close connection with Hip-Hop culture. This collaboration creates a united front between two musical styles, a united front for the French-speaking world.
The importance of the French-speaking world
Franco Votes embodies the vitality of the French language and the cultural richness of more than 320 million people who share a language spoken in the four corners of the world. Thanks to this initiative, French-speaking artists will benefit from unparalleled visibility, driven by the prestige and added value of the GRAMMYs.
The access to the prestigious GRAMMYs, long seen as a distant dream for many French-speaking artists, is now becoming a concrete possibility.
Will you be the one to write your name in history by winning the very first GRAMMY of Best French Rap Album of the Year, or even win a GRAMMY for the French-Speaking Song of the Year?
