José Luis Maldonado Ramos, better known as C-Kan, is an iconic figure in Mexican rap. Born in Guadalajara in 1987, this rapper, composer, producer and actor has established himself as a major voice of Hip-Hop in Spanish. With more than 6.7 million subscribers on YouTube and 2.5 billion views on his videos, he is one of the most influential artists of this genre in Mexico and in the Spanish-speaking world.
Background and influence
C-Kan began his rap career in his teenage years, shaping an authentic style by telling the harsh reality of life in his neighborhood, violence, the street, and everyday struggles. His stage name comes from his passion for dogs ('Can' in English means dog) and from La Cancha 98, the neighborhood where he grew up. He is the first Spanish rap artist to have exceeded 100 million views with his piece Vuelve in collaboration with MC Davo, a milestone in the history of Latin rap.
He has released several successful albums, including Voy por el sueño de muchos (2012) and Clasificación C (2014) , quickly becoming a reference in Mexican urban rap. His music has also been used in several international TV series and films, enhancing its global visibility.
