Chip Fu and Shaquille O'Neal reconnect with ''Cooyah Freestyle''
Before being an NBA superstar, he already rapped.......
Chip Fu, member of the trio Fu-Schnickens with Moc Fu and Poc Fu, returns with a new collaboration with Shaquille O'Neal. Their last connection dates back to June 8, 1993, release date of their classic What's Up Doc? (Can We Rock).
At that time, Shaq was fresh off his rookie season: he had made his NBA debut on November 6, 1992 with the Orlando Magic, just a few months before the track took off.
And for anyone who thinks Shaq got into rap late, let’s set the record straight: he’s been connected to this culture for over 40 years, long before he ever stepped into the NBA. He was already rapping, buying albums, and moving around Hip-Hop circles well before becoming a superstar.
For those who question Shaq’s talent:
With Cooyah Freestyle, Chip Fu offers a first glimpse of their upcoming single Warning, set for release on December 5. The track will drop digitally and as a limited-edition 7’’ vinyl through Fat Beats. It marks the first release from Chip Fu’s new EP, opening a fresh chapter for the Brooklyn MC.
This freestyle also highlights the legacy of the Fu-Schnickens, a group that left its mark on the ’90s with a unique technique and rapid-fire flow. The reunion between Chip Fu and Shaq shows that their chemistry is still there, more than 30 years after their first musical link-up.
