Originally from Toronto, Smiley has established himself since 2018 as one of the most atypical rappers on his scene. Revealed with the EP Buy. Or. Bye, he quickly asserted a distinct sonic identity, built far from standardized formats. His journey, which began in the streets, gradually led him to broader recognition, without ever turning his back on his roots.
His style is built around a laid-back flow, carried by an instantly recognizable voice that has become his trademark. This approach has allowed him to build a loyal audience and attract the attention of specialized media such as The FADER, Complex, and XXL, while also benefiting from the support of established figures, notably Drake.
As for Baka Not Nice, before launching his music career, Baka worked as a security guard for Drake. In 2017, Drake officially announced his signing to the OVO Sound label during an event in New York. His debut single, Live Up to My Name, co-written by Drake and produced by Murda Beatz, quickly became a hit and achieved gold certification in Canada.
