Magazine Hip-Hop (Guillermo) : Nuit blanche approaching a million views, it's a symbolic milestone. What does this number represent for you and your team after all the work put into this clip?

Sakage:

"Even if we're in an era where numbers are worth everything and nothing at the same time, and they don't necessarily reflect the quality of the work or the depth of a song, we have to be honest: seeing Nuit blanche approach a million is really nice. Especially because it's a video we made ourselves, without a big machine behind it.

When I think back on my journey, over 15 years of rap, years of working in the shadows, and this kind of result comes so quickly, it's obviously touching. It's symbolic, it's a great reward for the journey I've made."

Hip-Hop Magazine (Guillermo): What advice would you give to young MCs who want to reach your level?

Sakage:

”The best advice I can give is perseverance. You have to work, train, and keep going even when things aren’t moving forward. But above all, you have to stay authentic. Don’t chase success or results, because often, it’s when you do things for yourself, with true intention, that the results end up coming.”

Authenticity is felt in the writing, in the look, in the way of conveying. And that's what really runs through the pieces, I think. So yeah, the secret is to persevere without getting lost."

Magazine Hip-Hop (Guillermo) : Unlike many other rappers, your style is distinguished by conscious and committed rap. What motivated you to choose this path rather than following the more popular direction taken by most MCs?

Sakage:

"Above all, I do what I like, and it's inevitably influenced by what I've listened to and what I still listen to. Even boom bap, which often comes back into fashion, shows that trends are cyclical. Today, rap is very broad, very hybrid, and there are lots of different musical influences.

My way of rapping comes mainly from the prism of writing, which makes it much more rhythmic, with more words that bounce around, and therefore inevitably a little less popular at a time when what we listen to is much more top-line and light-hearted."

Sakage: a rapper ahead of his time

Originally from Toulouse, Sakage has managed to carve out a solid place for himself in French-speaking rap, recognized as much for his writing as for his consistency.
