After more than a decade away from the spotlight, Clipse, the iconic rap duo composed of Pusha T and Malice, marks a resounding return to the international Hip-Hop scene with the release of the title and event clip Chains & Whips. This comeback, hailed by the press and the rap community, stands out as much for its musical intensity as for the depth of its themes. Unfortunately, the absence of Kendrick Lamar in the clip, although present on the song, has also fueled numerous online debates

By surrounding yourself with Kendrick Lamar, a major figure in conscious rap, the two brothers signed with Chains & Whips a contemporary fresco on the struggles and paradoxes of the Black American community: systemic violence, success and materialism, questions about heritage and freedom.

A context steeped in history

Clipse, formed in the late 90s, had left the public orphaned since 2009. During this long hiatus, the MC Pusha T rose to the top of US rap solo, while Malice has devoted himself to other horizons. Their reunion therefore creates a shockwave: it reactivates a unique legacy, made of street references, chiseled narration and sincere productions.

Directed by Pharrell Williams, a historic accomplice of the duo, the piece benefits from a characteristic production, shaped with the unique and recognized style of Williams.
